Windows 2000 Multimedia - Optimize Sound Quality for Speaker Setup

With Windows 2000, you can optimize your sound card's quality for your speaker setup, so that if you are using headphones, desktop speakers, or a state-of-the-art 5.1 surround sound speaker setup, your audio will sound as crisp as possible.

To optimize sound quality for your Windows 2000 speaker setup, click the "Start" menu, choosing "Settings" then "Control Panel". When the "Control Panel" window appears, double-click "Sounds and Multimedia". When the "Sounds and Multimedia Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Audio" tab. Underneath "Sound Playback", click the "Advanced" tab.

An "Advanced Audio Properties" window will appear. Click the "Speakers" tab. Finally, underneath the "Speaker Setup" text, a pull-down will appear. Choose the speaker setup listed that most closely reflects your environment, then click "OK" to close the dialog boxes.
