Windows 2000 and Tweak UI - Remove Item from New Documents Submenu

SUMMARY: Use Tweak UI to remove icons from the Windows 2000 right-click "New" submenu.

Normally in Windows 2000, if you right-click on the desktop or in a folder, you can select the "New" menu and choose to automatically create new documents of a given file type. You can quickly create new folders, text files, or bitmap images. However, if you have installed many software packages, you may see other items in this menu, such as "New Spreadsheet", "New Presentation", etc. Also, if you don't frequently use the "Briefcase" feature to transfer files between machines, you may not want to see this item, either. If you don't often create new files of these other types, you may wish to remove them from the "New" menu. An easy way to do this is with Tweak UI.

Once you download, install, and run Tweak UI for Windows 2000 (check the other tips in MalekTips for details), click the "New" tab. Now, find new document types that you don't want displayed in the "New" submenu and uncheck their respective boxes to hide them. Or, click on the document types and then the "Remove" button to remove them forever. Click "OK" when done.

You can make sure this worked by right clicking on an empty area of the desktop. Select the "New" menu and you will see that your annoying new file types have been removed.
