Windows 2000 and Tweak UI - Hide Shortcut Arrows

SUMMARY: Remove the arrows on Windows 2000 shortcut icons with Tweak UI.

Normally, when you create a shortcut to an item in Windows 2000, an icon appears representing the shortcut. To signify that the icon is not a file but a shortcut to another item, a small arrow appears at the bottom-left of the icon. While many people find this convenient as it shows that the icon represents a shortcut, others would rather hide the arrow. If you belong in the latter group, you can use Tweak UI to hide the shortcut arrow.

After installing and running Tweak UI for Windows 2000 (read the download/installation tip in MalekTips for instructions), click on the "Explorer" tab. Under "Shortcut overlay", click the "None" radio button to remove the shortcut. Or, click on the appropriate radio button if you'd like to add back the arrow, use a lighter arrow for the shortcut, or use a custom-created shortcut (doing so will require developing a shortcut icon with an icon editor).

When you are done, press "OK" to close the dialog box.
