SUMMARY: Temporarily fix corrupted icons on Windows 2000 systems with Tweak UI.
There may be times running Windows 2000 that your Explorer icons look strange. Icons for word processing documents may look like images, spreadsheets may look like sound files, or bitmap icons may look like a set of tools. This happens because Windows 2000's icon cache sometimes gets corrupted. To fix this problem, use Tweak UI.
Download, install, and run Tweak UI for Windows 2000 using the tips mentioned in MalekTips. Click the "Repair" tab. Now, click the pull-down to the left of the button "Repair Now" and choose the "Rebuild Icons" option. Then, click the "Repair Now" button.
Windows 2000 should then refresh its icon cache, and the Explorer icons should return to their normal selves. If not, try this tip again. If your icons frequently lose their correct pictures, or if this tip fails to work, you may wish to check your graphics card manufacturer's website to see if a device driver update exists.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Windows 2000 and Tweak UI - Fix Odd-Looking Icons
