SUMMARY: Create Windows 95 desktop wallpaper quickly with Microsoft's Paint tool.
A couple of years back, on a system running Windows For Workgroups, it was approaching New Year's Eve. A couple of employees were on vacation and coming back in a couple of days, and I wanted to surprise them by putting a "Happy New Year!" graphic on their computer. While it did not take very long to create a simple graphic under Paintbrush with fancy fonts, simple balloons, and plenty of confetti, I then had to make the graphic into the Windows wallpaper. This involved the following:
First, I had to leave Paintbrush after designing the graphic, going back to Program Manager. Next, I selected the Main Group, then Control Panel, then the "Desktop" subsection. I clicked on the Wallpaper pull-down, then tried to remember the 8 character name which I named the graphic. I chose the "Tile Wallpaper" checkbox, and finally closed the "Desktop" subsection.
This obviously took a little bit of time, and I realized that under Windows 95 it could have been so much easier by leaving Paint open and choosing "Set as Wallpaper (Tiled)" from the "File" menu.
But I guess new shortcuts are just one of the things we need o/s upgrades for, isn't it?
