SUMMARY: Here's how to modify the Windows 95 "Send To" right-click popup list.
The right mouse button is, without a doubt, one of the most-useful improvements of Windows 95 over Windows For Workgroups. Relegated to mundane roles such as an occasional help pop-up or a double-click depending on the software, the right-mouse button now has time-saving features which can differ depending on the type of file chosen.
The "Send To" command, brought up by clicking on a file and pressing the right-mouse button, is set up to allow users to mail and fax documents. It can, however, be configured to allow using external programs to load and view documents for which they are currently not assigned. For example: the FILE_ID.DIZ files used on bulletin boards and file archives are not assigned an application. Instead of assigning them to Notepad, you can use this simple trick to allow Notepad (or any other program) to automatically appear on the "Send To" menu:
Open the \WINDOWS\SENDTO folder (by using Explorer, the Run command, etc.) Go to "File," then "New," and then "Shortcut." Now, follow the standard shortcut procedures to make a shortcut to the appropriate program, such as Notepad, WordPad, Paint, etc. Now, when you are done, not only will the shortcut appear in the folder, but it will also appear every time you use the "Send To" feature!
