Windows 95 Audio - Startup Midi

SUMMARY: Play a midi song when your start your Windows 95 computer.

A nice feature of Windows 95 is its support for sound effects at more areas than its predecessor. Sounds are supported for opening and closing applications, clicking on menu options, and much more. What is not supported, however, is using a midi song instead of a wave file. To get the startup sound to be a midi song instead of a simple wave file, this can be done:

Go to the Sounds section of Control Panel and get rid of the current start-up sound (no need to have a digital sound and a midi at the same time!) Open the WINDOWS\STARTM~1 directory. Click on "File," then "New," and then "Shortcut." Next, type in "X:\WINDOWS\MPLAYER.EXE /PLAY /CLOSE "(substituting the letter X for your Windows drive letter). Now, type in the filename (including the full path) where your desired startup midi is located.

For example: My Windows 95 drive is C, and I wish to play the file "Malek3.Mid" (shameless plug alert!) in my C:\MYMIDI directory. My full command line would be: c:\windows\mplayer.exe /play /close c:\mymidi\malek3.mid

Next, click "Next," and type in whichever name you wish for the shortcut's filename. Finish it up, and in no time flat, you now have a midi that will play every time Windows starts!
