Windows 95 CDs

Temporarily Suspend CD Autoplay

SUMMARY: Keep CDs from automatically playing with Windows 95.

If you have your Windows 95 computer set up to automatically play or start CDs when they are placed in your CD-ROM drive, there may be instances where you do not wish the CD to automatically start. To stop the CD from starting, place the CD in your CD-ROM drive, and hold down a SHIFT key while pressing the CD-ROM button or pushing the tray in (whichever you have to do) to insert the CD into your drive. Keep the SHIFT key held down for a few seconds (5-15 depending on your computer and what processes your computer is executing - experiment!). Hopefully if the SHIFT key was held down long enough, the CD will not start or play.
