Forceful Ejecting CDs

SUMMARY: Is your Windows 95 CD ROM locked? This tip may help eject a stuck CD.

If you cannot eject the CD in your drive by either pressing the eject button or using the tip previously mentioned in MalekTips, you may want to try the following. Note that standard disclaimers apply to this trick. However possibly unlikely, this trick may damage your CD drive or the CD in the drive. Use at a last resort.

Shutdown Windows 95 (properly if you can) and reboot the machine. If you still can not get the CD out of the drive when Windows restarts, shut down the machine again and keep the machine off. Look at the front of the CD player for an eject hold next to the CD tray (you Macintosh users might start anticipating what I'm going to say). If you find an eject hole, straighten the paperclip and try sticking it in the hole to force the CD-ROM to eject the disc.

If you do not have an eject hole, now is the time to look through your CD-ROM manual. There may be a hole built into the tray or you may have to try other techniques.
