Windows 95 and DOS - Prevent the Screensaver From Running

SUMMARY: Learn how to stop the Windows 95 screensaver from running when you have a DOS prompt open.

If you so desire, when you run a DOS program with Windows 95, you can prevent the screensaver from executing. This may be useful if:

1. Your DOS program needs a while to execute and may crash if the screensaver runs.
2. You are performing system maintenance, executing a batch file that takes a long time to run, and want to glance at the screen occasionally to see the results.

To disable the screensaver from running, create a shortcut to the DOS program you wish to run (right-click on the desktop, choose "New," then "Shortcut," and follow the prompts). Right-click on that shortcut and choose "Properties." On the "Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box that follows, choose the "Misc." tab. Uncheck "Allow screen saver" and close the dialog box.
