Detect Actual Transfer Speed

Would you like to get the exact download and upload speed of your modem? To do so, you need to add the modem transfer speed settings to your "System Monitor."

Click the "Start" button, choose "Settings," then "Control Panel." Double-click "Modems" on the window that appears. On the multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, click on your modem if it is not already selected. Click the "Properties" button. On the multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, click on the "Connection" tab. Next, click the "Advanced..." button. Check "Record a log file." Click OK until you close the windows that appeared.

Now, start your modem or Internet connection. When you are connected, go to your System Monitor ("Start" - "Programs" - "Accessories" - "System Tools" - "System Monitor." On the window that appears, choose the "Edit" menu, then "Add Item." Now, click on your modem, and you will see options to add the transfer and receive speeds to your monitored items list.
