Windows 95 Notepad - Wordpad - Edit HTML files with Notepad easier

Good ol' NOTEPAD - the old fashioned way to edit HTML. Although many HTML editors exist, many people (including myself - every site of mine was done this way) continue to use Notepad for their coding. This usually means that notepad has to be loaded, and from there you have to seek and find the HTML documents to be edited. This is due to the fact that most web browsers change the default association of "*.HTM" files to the browser, so double-clicking the file would not work. There is a way, however, to use the right-mouse-button functionality to add an "Edit with Notepad" menu option for HTML files by doing the following:

First, Right-click the "Start" button and choose "Explore." On the window that appears, choose the "View" menu, selecting "Options." On the multi-tabbed dialog box that follows, click on the "File Types" tab. If you are using Netscape, scroll down to "Netscape Hypertext Document." Otherwise, scroll down to a related URL filetype according to your browser.

Click the "Edit" button. Click "New" on the "Edit File Type" dialog box which follows. For the "Action" field, type in "Edit W/Notepad." for the "Application..." field, click on "Browse" and double-click NOTEPAD.EXE when found. Click "OK" until all of the "Options"-related dialog boxes are closed.
