| Win95 Deletes WRITE - How to Recover The Write applet is commonly used in Win3.11 and WFWG as a mini-word processor. Win95, however, contains its own version of a mini-word-processor called WordPad, and, for some reason or another, wants to force you into using this program. Although more powerful that Write, WordPad takes longer to load and may simply not be suitable for your tasks.
When upgrading from a previous version of Windows to Win95, WRITE.EXE is replaced with an executable that simply launches WordPad. To save your copy of WRITE.EXE, you either need to rename WRITE.EXE to something else before installing Win95 (such as WRITEOLD.EXE); or use the EXPAND program under DOS to expand WRITE.EX_ from the Win3.1 or WFWG distribution disks to WRITE.EXE.
