Windows 95 Reboot and Shutdown - Shut Down Explorer - But Not Windows

SUMMARY: Keep Windows running but stop Explorer.exe.

If you have one of the following problems:

You've messed up the taskbar (perhaps by removing the Start button from the taskbar)
An Explorer window is 'locked'

You may have to restart Win95 to fix the problem - normally. Or, try pressing CONTROL - ALT - DELETE. Click on "Explorer," and then "Exit Task." On the window that appears, press the CANCEL button so you do NOT want to restart Win95. A few seconds later, Win95 will tell you that Explorer is not responding. Click the "End Task" button. Explorer will close and then immediately restart. The downside is that most of the taskbar icons will disappear - but the good side is that you will not necessarily have to restart Win95.
