Windows 95 Searching - Finding - Find What You Named a Recently Made File

SUMMARY: Look for files that were recently edited in a Windows 95 application.

There are potentially many instances which can cause someone to create a file, be forced to stop working, and have to return to the file later with no clue as to what they named the file. This occurs often in office environment, where workers may be forced to jump between various projects almost haphazardly. If time is of the essence and you need to find the name of a file you recently created, use the "Find" tool.

First, click on the "Start" Menu, choosing "Find" and then "Find Files or Folders" from the cascading menu that follows. On the "Find: All Files" dialog box that appears, click on the "Date Modified" tab. Click on the "Find all files created or modified:" radio button. Click on the radio button "during the previous...days" if you created the file many months ago, or "during the previous...days" if the file was made recently. Take a guess as to how long ago the file was made, and key it in the appropriate box next to the radio button you selected. Click on the "Name & Location" tab. Click on the "Look In:" pull-down menu, and choose "Drives & Settings" to look at all of the hard drives connected to the system (or, if you know which hard drive contains the file, just choose it). Make sure the "Named:" box is empty, and click on the "Find Now" button.

A list of files created or modified within the amount of days/months will be shown. You can then execute the files, run Quickview, etc., to find the needed information.
