SUMMARY: This bit of advice may help you get multimedia players working with Windows 98.
Do you have a media player that's not able to play certain types of music or video files? Here is a tip I got a long time ago (I wish I remembered the source but I apologize!) that may do the trick.
Open up Notepad and edit your WIN.INI file in your Windows directory, usually C:\WINDOWS (be sure to make a backup first!)
Look for a section called "[mci extensions]" (without the quotes). If you don't see such a section, make one. This section should include the following text. If any lines are missing, add them.
mid=Sequencer
rmi=Sequencer
wav=waveaudio
avi=AVIVideo
Save the file and reboot Windows 98. Now, your media player should be able to detect your multimedia files.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Windows 98 and Audio - Media Player Not Working?
