Adjust Sound Quality to Match Speakers

SUMMARY: Use this tip to get the most out of your Windows 98 speaker setup.

With most sound cards, Windows 98 lets you adjust your sound quality to match your speaker system. Whether you have desktop speakers, headphones, or keyboard stereo speakers, Windows 98 can adjust the sound quality to try to provide a better audio experience.

1. Click "Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel".
2. When the Control Panel window appears, double-click "Multimedia".
3. When the multi-tabbed "Multimedia Properties" window appears, choose "Audio".
4. Next to "Playback", click the button "Advanced Properties", if it is enabled.
5. The "Advanced Audio Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears. Choose your Speaker Setup from those provided, if applicable, and press "OK".

If these options do not appear, either your sound card or environment does not support this feature, or you need to upgrade Windows 98 to the latest Service Pack.
