Windows 98 and Windows Help - Link Directly to Help Topics

SUMMARY: Create direct desktop links or bookmarks to Windows 98 Help System bookmarks.

Since Win98's help system is HTML based, you can link directly to any help topic you wish - provided you know the URL. To find the URL to a help document, simply open up a topic. For example, open Win98's help, and navigate the "Contents" bar to "Exploring Your Computer" - "Keyboard Shortcuts" - "For Windows." Open up the topic. Now, right-click on the icon on the top-left corner of the "Windows Help" folder and choose "Jump to Url..." Move your mouse pointer to "Current URL:" and highlight the text, then copy it (CONTROL-INS is the shortcut).

Now that you have the URL, you can do all kinds of things with it, like placing shortcut to that help topic on your desktop. Open up Internet Explorer and paste (SHIFT-INS) the URL into the address bar and press ENTER. Right-click the webpage and choose "Place Shortcut."
