Windows 98 Reboot and Shutdown
Boot to a Boot Menu
SUMMARY: Display the Windows 98 boot menu to access the DOS prompt or Safe Mode.
Windows 98 can boot to a menu instead of the GUI operating system. This lets you directly access the DOS prompt, or perform diagnostics using "Safe Mode." To do this, hold down the CONTROL key while you boot your machine and the Windows 98 boot menu should appear.
Return to the Windows 98 Reboot and Shutdown page.
