This tip was printed from the MalekTips Computer and Technology Help and Tips website at http://malektips.com. Windows 98 Reboot and Shutdown - What is Scandisk Doing?SUMMARY: Find out what Scandisk is doing in the background whenever it runs due to a Windows 98 system crash.
Whenever you have to forcefully reboot Windows 98, Scandisk runs before Windows 98 completely loads the next time. While you normally see that Scandisk is running, you rarely see exactly what tasks Scandisk is performing, and whether or not errors are being fixed. To find out if Scandisk is fixing problems on your machine (or you just want to know what's going on 'behind your back'), load up the SCANDISK.LOG file in the root directory of your boot drive with Notepad. You may be surprised to find out what is really going on! |
