Windows 98 Taskbar - Toolbar - Adjust Display Settings on Taskbar

SUMMARY: Change your monitor settings directly from the Windows 98 taskbar - without QuickRes.

There may be times where you'd like to quickly adjust your Windows 98 display resolution or color depth. Longtime power Windows 95 users remember a PowerToy called QuickRes that let you put an icon on the taskbar so you could quickly adjust those properties. How do you get a copy of QuickRes for Windows 98? Surprise - it's built into the operating system.

1. Right-click an empty area of the desktop and choose "Properties".
2. On the multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, select the "Settings" tab.
3. Click on the "Advanced" button.
4. On the dialog box that appears, check "Show settings icon on task bar" and press "OK" to close the dialog box.

A new display icon will appear on the taskbar. Click the icon and a list of possible display settings will appear. Click on a setting to chance your display options.
