Use CoolType to Make PDFs Easier to Read

SUMMARY: Smooth the display of text in your PDF documents when viewed in Adobe Reader 7.

Adobe Reader 7.0 contains a feature called CoolType. Optimized for LCD screens and laptops, CoolType smoothes text and monochrome graphics. Some people find PDF documents easier to read when this feature is enabled. If you wish to try CoolType:

1. Click "Edit" - "Preferences".

2. When the "Preferences" dialog box appears, click the "Page Display" link in the left pane.

3. Check "Use CoolType (Recommended for laptop/LCD screens)" in the right pane.

4. Click "OK" to save your settings.

Before enabling this setting, be sure to open a PDF containing a series of text. This way, you can immediately see the results of enabling CoolType, and determine whether or not you wish to keep this feature enabled.

If you don't like the results, disable CoolType; perform the above tasks, but uncheck the "Use CoolType" box.
