SUMMARY: Create text files from PDFs for research or distribution.
Depending on the PDF security properties, you may be able to export PDF documents to a text file for opening in programs such as Notepad. Note that this best works for documents that contain mostly text; graphical documents and those with complex formatting may produce questionable results.
1. Open a PDF document in Adobe Reader 7.
2. Select "File" - "Save as Text".
3. Choose a folder to place your document, give it a filename, and click "Save".
Each page of the converted PDF will have the following header:
FILENAME page nnn of nnn
i.e.
Bookmarks Page 1 of 4
Each page of the converted PDF will have the following footer:
FILENAME_OR_URL DATE
i.e.
file://C:\blah.htm 1/16/2005
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Adobe Reader 7 - Convert PDF to a Text File
