Graphics-Intensive Pages Slow Older Computers

SUMMARY: Is Adobe Reader 7 slowing down when viewing PDF files containing large graphics? This tweak may speed things up.

If you are using an older computer to view PDF files in Adobe Reader 7, you may find that graphically-intensive pages can slow your machine down to a crawl. If you just need to view the text of a PDF document and don't care about fancy graphics, prevent large images from displaying.

1. From Adobe Reader 7 select "Edit" - "Preferences".

2. When the "Preferences" dialog box appears, click "Page Display" in the left pane.

3. In the right pane, uncheck "Display Large Images".

4. Click "OK" to save your settings.
