| Ensure Your Equipment is Ready SUMMARY: Perform a pre-flight checkup on your digital photography equipment. Flight time can be incredibly expensive, and if something is wrong with your digital camera equipment while you are in the air, money is wasted and an opportunity lost. At a minimum, make sure you do the following BEFORE your trip:
* Clear out all memory cards (after backing up the photos, of course!) Insert your highest-capacity media into your digital camera, or, if you plan on taking shots in quick succession, your fastest media.
* Charge all of your batteries, and insert the highest-capacity battery (or batteries) into your digital camera. Practice switching out sets of batteries quite quickly beforehand should the need arise while in the air.
* Clean your lens and viewfinder using your cleaning kit. Be sure to bring it along in case dirt, dust, or a smudge should find its way onto your lens.
* Test your digital camera to ensure the electronics are working correctly. Take a couple of test shots on the ground to make sure it is running smoothly.
