Digital Wildlife and Animal Photography

Use a Fast Shutter Speed

SUMMARY: Compensate for fast animal movements with your digital camera settings.

Animals can run or fly away at incredible speeds. Especially if you are taking photographs of birds, you need to adjust your digital camera shutter speed to make it as fast as possible with the available light. Capturing a soaring bird is an incredible moment, but a shutter speed of 1/30 of a second will probably ruin the image, turning a graceful flight into an unsightly blur.

If you have to, increase your digital camera's ISO settings to allow you to take faster photographs. This may introduce a slight grain in your photo but can sometimes be the difference between getting a good picture and none at all.
