Digital Wildlife and Animal Photography - Don't Smell!

SUMMARY: Odors can give away your presence to animals, making digital photography more difficult.

Many animals have a much better sense of smell than humans. This is for obvious reasons - to sense prey or predators. Use this fact to your advantage when taking photos of wildlife and try to reduce any scents you may give off.

While some animals may be attracted to food, others might notice the scent and turn away. Don't eat before a photo shoot, because no matter how well you think you've cleaned up, a few morsels of food may remain on you. Wear as much clothing as possible, though obviously don't get too hot in sunny conditions. Minimize your deodorant and shampoo or use the unscented kind before you go out to take photos.
