This is difficult in shooting some animals, such as birds, that fly very fast and can test your reflexes as well as digital camera's shutter lag time. Don't always be afraid of a little blurring, especially if birds or other animals are framed against a beautiful backdrop, such as the beach during a vibrant sunrise / sunset.
