Have I gotten your attention yet? I’m telling you that you don’t have to waste time taking one hand from the keyboard, placing it on the mouse, moving the mouse around and navigating menus, clicking on buttons, etc., then moving the mouse back to the original text and continuing typing. If you are willing to spend some time learning some tricks, there are ways to perform many common functions in Word using the keyboard.
You don’t have to move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse in order to save files, open files, bold text, move around to the top and bottom of documents, etc. There are ways to perform these functions without worrying with the mouse.
The following are common functions, grouped by category, that you can perform using keyboard shortcuts. To perform most shortcuts, you will probably need to hold down the ALT and/or CONTROL keys while tapping a letter or function key.
Formatting Text
Don’t spend any more time navigating through the font configuration dialog box or clicking on toolbar buttons just because you need to bold a word to prove a point.
Bold text: CONTROL-B
Italicize text: CONTROL-I
Underline text: CONTROL-I
Perform all text formatting: ALT-O, then F.
