SUMMARY: If you're looking for a treasure trove of baseball facts and stats, check out Baseball Almanac.
Baseball fans - can you name who hit the first home run for the New York Yankees? Do you remember the first official night game for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field? Or which major league player hit for the most triples in his career?
These and many other baseball-related facts can be found at Baseball Almanac, a privately-held website that touts itself as "The Official Baseball History Site". You'll find baseball card autographs, lists of award winners such as the Hank Aaron and Rawlings Gold Glove, charts including batter stances and no hitters by month, plus lists of baseball families including brothers and fathers-and-sons who made it to the majors.
The "Statmaster", billed as the "single most comprehensive Major League team statistics tool on the internet", lets you search by league, team, and season for a variety of hitting stats (including home runs, sacrifice flies, and stolen bases), pitching stats (including balks, ERAs, and wild pitches), and fielding stats (including double plays, fielding percentage, and zone rating).
And there's more, including (partial list):
* Baseball jokes including George Carlin's comparison between baseball and football and David Letterman Top Ten lists
* Baseball-related quotes, including from Yogi Berra - "He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious."
* Baseball-related movie list
* Opening day schedules
* Umpire rules and assignments, such as who umpired World Series games
