Birdwatching Social Networks

SUMMARY: Discuss with others your findings from the world of birding.

Are you a birdwatcher or perhaps even a twitcher? Tired of only sharing your findings of kiwi, heron, or eagles with friends and family and want to share your photographs with others?

The following three websites are social networks geared towards birdwatching enthusiasts. All offer plenty of photos and opportunities to share your experiences with others.

Birdpost at http://birdpost.com/ lets you view bird sightings via satellite maps. You can search for birds by species, family, and physical characteristics. Plus, each user gets a "My Birds" page where they can chronicle their sightings. A membership is required to use these services.

Bird Feeder Friends at http://birdfeederfriends.com also supports member pages with bird photographs. Users can add blog posts, form discussions, post videos, add event and group information, link to their homepage and Twitter account, and more.

Bird Social Network at http://bird-networks.com/ offers similar features, hosting forums in such categories as "Bird Behavior" and "Conservation". Membership is required to access most of the site's features, though some areas, such as the image search, are open to the general public.

Be sure to check out our digital photography tips if you plan on taking and sharing digital photos of birds!
