Adjust White Balance for More Accurate Photos

SUMMARY: Adjusting your camera phone's white balance may help it take better photos in difficult lighting situations.

Tired of your camera phone photographs showing a bluish or greenish tint?

Many camera phones have the ability to adjust white balance, helping your camera phone accurately record colors based on the current lighting. While most phones perform automatic white balance adjustments, this may not work in all lighting situations and manual tweaking may be necessary for more-accurate photos.

White balance options vary by phone. For example, with one particular camera phone I can adjust the white balance for sunny skies, cloudy days, or tungsten or fluorescent lighting.

Some camera phones have a manual white balance mode. With this feature, hold up a completely white piece of cardboard next to the phone and take a photo, or take a picture of a wall of other completely white surface. Your camera phone will then handle color recording accordingly.

Note that instructions for adjusting the white balance differ by camera phone model but can usually be found in a "Camera Phone Settings" section or similar. Refer to your camera phone's manual for more information.
