Clear Your Computer's History

SUMMARY: Use CounterSpy to help prevent others from seeing what documents you open, webpages you view, and files that you search for.

Your operating system and various software packages keep a history log of many things you do on your computer, including:

* Documents opened/edited in various software packages

* Internet Search history in browsers and toolbars

* File search history

* Multimedia files played

* and more.

Normally these history files are useful. If you run a particular software package, you can quickly go back to a document / multimedia file / webpage you recently accessed by scanning the history. However, these history items may violate your privacy if your machine is shared by other people. Thus, CounterSpy has a tool that helps remove these items.

1. From CounterSpy, select "View" - "System Tools" - "History Cleaner".

2. The "History Cleaner" will appear with various history items you can remove.

* Click on a highlighted history item to get details about the item (grayed-out items do not apply to your machine).

* To prepare an item for deletion, check its box. Likewise, if you decide not to remove an item, clear the checkbox. Or, click "Check all" to queue all items for deletion.

3. Click the "Clean History" button. Note this will not prevent history from filling up again; it will only delete the current history for the checked items.
