| Buy a UV Filter SUMMARY: What is a UV filter, and how can it help protect your digital camera lens? Depending on your digital camera, you can purchase a UV (Ultraviolet) filter to be fitted or screwed onto the top of your lens. Good reasons for purchasing this include:
1. The most important reason - a UV filter can help prevent your lens from getting scratched or damaged. UV filters cover your digital camera lens, meaning scratches may only affect the filter. Replacing a damaged filter is usually MUCH cheaper than replacing a damaged digital camera lens.
2. A UV filter can help prevent ultraviolet rays from getting into the digital camera lens, sometimes resulting in better photographs, especially if you take a lot of outdoor photos.
3. UV filters are clear, meaning that you will most likely not have to change any digital camera settings with taking photos.
Make sure you get a filter that matches your lens size, or you may have to purchase an add-on adapter to fit the filter on top of your lens. UV filters are very common, however, and you should be able to find one that fits by taking your digital camera to a camera store.
