Digital Camera Memory

Should You Buy a USB 2.0 Card Reader?

SUMMARY: Advantages and disadvantages of a USB 2.0 memory card reader.

If you plan on buying a USB memory card reader that supports USB 2.0, you should first ensure that your computer supports USB 2.0 and not just USB 1.x. Else, those advertised image transfer speeds will not occur.

While a USB 2.0 memory card reader should still work on a USB 1.x machine, though at lower speeds than advertised, if it costs extra money for a high-speed reader, your investment will be mostly for naught until you get a computer that supports USB 2.0.
