Digital Camera Memory

Don't Format Media with your PC

SUMMARY: Digital cameras may not recognize memory formatted with your PC.

Digital cameras come with a menu option to format or clear your media. Always use these options; never format a media device with your PC. When you format media using your camera, it sets the device up with certain folders, configuration items, quick preview areas, etc. that your digital camera expects. If you format digital media with your computer, it will not know how to set up those items. Your digital camera might not be able to take photos with the media until re-formatted. Worse, your digital camera may let you take photos, and you may not find them where expected, or it could result in your photo files being corrupted.
