SUMMARY: On whom should you concentrate your digital sports photography efforts?
As soon as you get to a sporting event, before you begin to take photos, consider purchasing a program. Or, go online before the event and study the opening lineup from a sports website such as CBS Sportsline, ESPN, or Sports Illustrated .
Know who are the key players and those who barely know how to swing a bat, shoot the basketball, catch a pass, hit the puck, etc. Focus your attention on the stars as they most likely will make the plays resulting in the best photographs, but don't be so drawn to celebrity that you miss a role player making a crucial steal or diving catch that wins the game for their team!
Studying the lineup also provides you with other detailed information useful for photography. Is someone playing injured? What about player substitutions? Perhaps a role player is on a winning streak and may warrant extra photos.
