Digital Sports Photography - Consider Accessory Flash Units

SUMMARY: Add distance to your flash efforts by purchasing accessory flash units.

If your digital camera supports accessory flash units, consider purchasing one when taking sports photos. Most cameras have pop-up flash that isn't very powerful and won't cover a long distance. An accessory flash unit may help if you can get relatively close to the action (probably not if you're sitting in the bleachers, however!).

Accessory flash units can also aid in "freezing" the action as well as compensating for low-light situations. Just make sure that these flash units are allowed at the event you wish to cover or visit.
