The Ground May be Worth Photographing

SUMMARY: Look everywhere for photo opportunities when traveling, even on the ground.

Very rarely does one carefully look where one walks. We take the road, pavement, dirt, or sand for granted, and hardly ever take a fine look at the patterns found in the places our feet tread. As a photographer, you should look everywhere for interesting photo opportunities, and that includes the ground as well. Besides telling a story, these photographs can be used as stock photos for your web backgrounds or PowerPoint presentations.

For example:

* When at the beach, take photos of the sand, possibly areas heavily populated with shells for variety. I even took a photo of a close-up of snack mix dispersed on the beach. Why? It tells a story about how some people are careless with the environment and litter.

* In a large city, look for historically preserved areas of town that may still be lined with cobblestone roads. These old, worn down areas can symbolize the age of a town.

* During the fall, instead of just taking photos of foliage still on the trees, shoot downward and capture the leaves that have already fallen.
