Digital Travel Photography - Be Careful with Ozone and Pollution

SUMMARY: Help make sure your health is not at risk when going outside taking digital photos.

If you plan on taking photos in a big city (and, unfortunately, in a growing number of rural areas) during the spring and summer months, you may be subject to a high concentration of ozone or other pollutants in the air. It can result in the air appearing darker, a significant reduction in the line of sight, or in some cases a smell or a sense that the air feels 'heavier'. This can result in less available light, or wide-angle shots with a lessened subject area due to a decreased line of sight.

Also, while mild air pollution is not healthy for anyone, it can especially harm the sick and elderly. As the temperature gets hotter, if you plan on being outdoors taking photos, you may want to check the area's forecasted pollution or ozone index. If the level of pollutants is too high, you should consider limiting your outdoor activities.
