Digital Travel Photography - Be Careful Where You Shoot

SUMMARY: Just as times have changed, so must digital photographers in where they can shoot pictures

Just as you should obey all "No Trespassing" signs (as mentioned in other tips in MalekTips), especially in this day and age, you should be careful where you shoot. Some people may be suspicious of photographers, especially if they are alone, shooting late at night, and/or taking photos of public transportation (i.e. train stations) or public works (i.e. dams).

If you are asked by security to stop taking photos, no matter where you are at (even at a public place), it may be best to do so. Later (or recommended before), contact a building or area supervisor, management, or administrator, and tell them why you want to take photos at a particular place. Some once-public areas may now require IDs and check-ins due to the need for more security.

Understand that due to recent events, some peoples' perceptions of photographers have changed.
