SUMMARY: Good manners can greatly assist your travel photography escapades.
When traveling, whether it is in the same country or abroad, if you want others to help you out, either by temporarily moving out of the way so you can take a photograph of a famous landmark or statue, or if you want to take photos of certain people, possibly in traditional garb or those performing an interesting job, the best thing to do is be polite and smile.
Don't be loud, overbearing, or rude. Ask people politely for help or permission to photograph them (if you are talking to someone who speaks your language). Try not to use flash as it may harm someone's eyes if they are sensitive to light. If you are trying to take a photo of someone, consider using a small (yet powerful) compact camera. A digital SLR or prosumer camera may look overwhelming.
