Hurricane Warning? Leave Now!

SUMMARY: Digital photography can wait if a hurricane warning is issued.

If you're taking digital photos on a beach or other tropical paradise and a hurricane warning is issued, don't dawdle. Don't think that the bad weather will provide you with dramatic cloudscapes and great digital photo opportunities. Don't wait until the last minute to leave, thinking that with everyone else gone the clear beaches will make great photographs. Go now!

Hurricanes can change intensity and direction in minutes. Think of the hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004. Hurricane Charley was tracked to hit the Tampa / St. Petersburg area, but instead it quickly changed course and devastated other areas in Florida including the Sanibel and Captiva Islands.

Leave weather photography to the professionals (or foolish!) Downbursts and wind can occur long before the eye reaches land, making it impossible for you to move inland if you wait too long. If you're asked to evacuate, go!
