Be Careful Hiking In a Waterfall!

SUMMARY: Resist the urge to climb rocks in a waterfall for a digital photo opportunity - use your zoom instead.

Take care if you decide to wade or hike in a waterfall. Though great photo opportunities may appear when you get closer, danger exists. You can easily lose your balance and slip on rocks, even if they look dry. Also, waterfalls do not always produce steady streams of water. It could come gushing down any second, making it difficult for you to move or even stand up, bringing along the risk of drowning. It may be safer to stand back, hooking up a digital camera with a powerful zoom to a tripod, if you want to capture detail.
