SUMMARY: Why it is beneficial to separate your e-mails from your e-mail attachments.
Although it may seem wasteful, you may want to consider sending e-mail attachments in separate e-mails from the original message, especially when sending e-mail attachments to a particular person for the first time. Two good reasons for this:
1. If a user is on a dial-up account, they may be able to read the original message and then download the attachment at a later time of their own choosing. Downloading attachments via dial-up accounts can take a while, and some people plan to only download attachments while doing something else.
2. Knowingly (or unknowingly, depending on one's Internet Service Provider), some people have e-mail filters set up regarding attachments. Some of these filters may only remove an e-mail attachment, yet others may delete an entire message. If you send a long e-mail message with an attachment to someone who has one of these filters installed, they may never know you sent them a message!
