Text Editor with Code Snippets and Syntax Highlighting

SUMMARY: EmEditor supports macros, HTML preview, syntax highlighting, and downloadable plug-ins.

EmEditor is a multi-tabbed text editor for Windows. The software contains programmer-centric features such as syntax highlighting for Java, Perl, Ruby, and other languages. Via a "Snippets" plug-in you can easily add pre-made code such as constant definitions, if clauses, and loops.

Other program features include in-file and multi-file find and replace with regular expression support, bookmark toggling, bracket highlighting, hidden character viewing, line numbers, splitting and joining lines, outlining, text sorting, and macro support. Windows can be split into four panes, making it easier to work on multiple parts of the same file concurrently without having to scroll through the code. HTML documents can be previewed inside the application. Downloadable plug-ins allow for more features including a color picker and word counter.

Configuration options can be set for each language configuration and include toggling scroll bars, changing the default encoding scheme, how to handle if an edited file is opened by another application, backing up files and auto-save, choosing words to automatically highlight in-text, changing the theme, and whether URLs should be hyperlinked.

The software runs on Windows 2000 and above. A 30-day trial may be downloaded from the following site:
