File Recovery - Undelete - DiskDigger for Windows

SUMMARY: DiskDigger is a file recovery package for Windows that can "dig deeper" for traces of known file types.

DiskDigger is a freeware file recovery package for Windows written by Dmitry Bryant. DiskDigger can recover files from hard drives, digital camera memory, USB flash drives, and other media. The software even claims to be able to recover data from reformatted or poorly formatted drives.

DiskDigger is a simple executable download inside a zip file - there is no installation package. Run the executable and select the drive you wish to scan.

Two types of "digs" for recoverable files are supported - a "dig deep" that doesn't scan the entire disk or handle obscure file systems, or a "dig deeper" that recovers traces of files, but cannot recover file names.

Possibly recoverable files are listed along with their sizes, dates created and modified, and attributes, and you can display more detailed file information (if available). You can preview files to see if valid data still remains. Then to recover files, just select them and click "Restore selected file(s)", then select the directory to place the recovered files.

As with all file recovery software, results will vary based on many factors including whether a drive has been defragged, amount of computer use since the file was deleted, etc. Even if software claims to recover a file, information may be lost. Your results with this and all file recovery software may vary.
