File Transfer - FTP - SFTP - WinSCP

SUMMARY: WinSCP is an open-source file transfer program for Windows with options useful for remote system maintenance.

WinSCP is an open-source file transfer program for Windows that supports FTP, SFTP, and SCP transfers. The software supports "Norton Commander" and "Windows Explorer" drag-and-drop interfaces with system, "Office XP", and "Office 2003" themes; custom color backgrounds; and a variety of technical configuration options.

WinSCP can automatically reconnect if the transfer fails. Text files can be edited in-place with an integrated editor. A "synchronize" option helps keep remote and local directories similar. You can open the PuTTY terminal with the current session as a menu option, useful if you are maintaining a remote server.

If you are using a firewall and trying to access sites via FTP you may need to check the "Advanced options" box in the "WinSCP Login" dialog box, then click the "Connection" link and check "Passive mode". Otherwise connections may fail.

WinSCP is available as a portable executable, allowing it to be run from a USB flash drive. Configuration information can be stored in an .INI file or the Windows Registry.
