Mozilla Firefox - Plugins and Extensions

Allow More Room for Web Browsing with a Compact Menu

SUMMARY: The Compact Menu 2 extension allows the Firefox menu to always be available, just not take up so much space.

If you want more room onscreen to browse the web in Mozilla Firefox without going to Full Screen mode, you may know that you can hide the Menu Bar by selecting "View" - "Toolbars" and unchecking "Menu Bar". To temporarily view the menu bar when needed, just press the Alt key. However, what if you forget this, or would still like the menu to be available all the time - just not take up so much space?

The Compact Menu 2 extension adds an icon to the Navigation Toolbar that when clicked, displays the Firefox menu in a more compact vertical format. You won't have to use the keyboard to access the menu (and doing so won't pop up a space-taking menu bar), but if you still want to navigate the menu with the Alt and cursor keys, that will work.

4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.

5. Once Firefox has restarted, you should note that the menu bar has disappeared and a new menu icon is visible on the left side of the Navigation Toolbar. Click it or press the Alt key to show the menu.

6. A few configuration options are available including changing the icon that displays the menu. Select "Tools" - "Add-ons", and then click the "Options" button underneath "Compact Menu 2".
