Manage Downloaded Files via a Status Bar
SUMMARY: View details of files downloaded via Firefox without having to access the "Downloads" dialog with the Download Statusbar add-on.
When downloading files via Mozilla Firefox, do you get tired of switching back and forth with the "Downloads" window to manage and open your files? With Download Statusbar you can display a list of files on the bottom of the Firefox window, directly above the main status bar. Plus, you can hover over downloaded files to view the source URL, file size, time to download, and average transfer speed.
1. Visit the following page from within Firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/26
2. Click the "Add to Firefox" button.
3. The "Software Installation" dialog box will eventually appear. Click "Install Now" as soon as the button is enabled.
4. Once the add-on has installed, click the "Restart Firefox" button. Depending on your configuration, Firefox may note that it will try to restart your windows and tabs.
Once Firefox has restarted, as soon as you download a file, the status bar should appear. As mentioned above, hover over a file to view download information. Right-click a file for rename and other options, and double-click the file to open it.
Click on the "Downloads" button to view the download history or switch to mini mode where the status bar becomes an icon to save space. Also from here, or from the Firefox "Add-ons" dialog box, you may modify options including toggling download progress notifications, whether or not opening a file or its containing folder clears it from the status bar, file types to auto clear, playing a sound upon download completion, display colors, and configuring virus scanning to perform on completed downloads.
